Outside

−7.8 °C

The average January low at Kusatsu, 1,223 m (JMA, 1991–2020). We are higher up, at 1,444 m.

Inside

2 Daikins

Daikin commercial air conditioners heat the Kotatsu Lounge whenever guests are using it. There is no kerosene heater indoors. The building was insulated and double-glazed when it was renovated, and in the cold months there is a kotatsu on a heated carpet.

What people ask first

  1. Where do I sleep?

In your own car or a tent. Nobody sleeps in the building, and the lounge is a place to work, not to sleep. Tents and sleeping bags are on the paid rental list.

  2. Is it warm?

The Kotatsu Lounge is. It is heated whenever guests are using it, and on the All-in Camp it is open 24 hours, so a cold night in a tent can end at the kotatsu. A tent or a car is as warm as your gear: heater rentals are on the winter page.

  3. How fast is the internet?

The lounge desks are on 100Mbps fibre, with open seating for up to 50.

  4. Can I cook and shower?

Yes. The shared kitchen and fridge are on every plan. There are 2 hot shower rooms: unlimited on the All-in Camp, ¥500 a shower on the other plans.

  5. Do you speak English?

Yes, English OK. The site, the booking and the chat are in English, and Sennin Kenji, who lives here and runs the place, lived in Singapore for more than 20 years.

  6. How do I get here from Tokyo?

By car it is about 3 hours (Kanetsu Expressway → Joshin-etsu Expressway → Usui-Karuizawa IC → Route 146 → Route 144); from November to April winter tyres are required. Without a car, take the Hokuriku Shinkansen to Karuizawa, then Seibu Kanko Bus's Kusatsu–Karuizawa Line (via Manza) to the Tsumagoi Ranch (Bell of Love) stop at the gate. The bus runs a winter timetable, so check the times before you travel.

  7. When can I arrive, and for how long?

Check-in is Thursday to Monday from 12:00; for a Tuesday or Wednesday arrival, ask us on LINE first. No arrivals 7–21 December 2026. Online bookings run up to 7 nights.

  8. What about a visa?

Japan has a Digital Nomad visa for stays of up to six months. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs explains who can apply; we can't advise on visas.

Who runs it

Sennin Kenji lives here and runs the place.

He built almost all the furniture here himself.

The place is still slowly being built up.

Grass cutting, insects, animals, the septic tank, the rubbish: things someone else handled in the city, he is learning one at a time.
